  1. 01 — The constraint

    Trust was the bottleneck

    SATO’s lesson in Chapter 3 is not a sermon about markets. It is an engineering diagnosis. Every civilization that coordinates at scale needs a shared answer to a brutal question: what is this worth, and who can change the answer? In 2096 every monetary system had an issuer. Issuers can print for a war, a crisis, a faction, or simply because time corrupts institutions. You can build wonders on a foundation that is only as honest as the people who can dilute it.

  2. 02 — Nobody’s allocation

    If someone can allocate it, it is not money

    On Aethon IV, water is ‘allocated’ by contribution hours and, simultaneously, by which families the powerful like. Both facts are true. Everyone knows both facts. That is the human default. Bitcoin is the first widely-run system whose supply is not a policy. 21 million is not a promise from a board. It is a rule the network will reject you for breaking. Kael’s first true understanding is not technical. It is moral: a system that is nobody’s allocation.

  3. 03 — Energy into time

    Proof of work is physics, not a vibe

    A ledger anyone can copy is worthless unless adding a false history is expensive in the real world. Proof of work burns energy to make time unforgeable. Joules become order. That is why Bitcoin can sit under a starship’s authorization in this novel without becoming magic: the chain is the one record that does not care who is standing in the canyon, who runs the Order, or who would prefer the past to have gone differently.

  4. 04 — The timechain

    Time is the thing you cannot print

    Blocks arrive in probabilistic minutes. Difficulty retargets. The chain is a clock that no committee sets. The Nakamoto’s own authorizations are written to that clock. In a universe of derivation drives, quantum keys, and compressed transits, the book still treats Bitcoin’s time as the civilizational one — the beat you can point to when someone asks what happened, and when, and whether it can be denied.

  5. 05 — It has to scale

    Humanity does not get a next physics without a next honesty

    The novel’s future is not powered by slogans. Settlements, platforms, archives, and a 46-world network all fail or hold based on whether records can be trusted at distance. If Bitcoin is to be the monetary physics of a species that leaves its solar escape room, it must carry more of humanity — more settlement, more people, more machines — without restoring an issuer. Scale is not a feature request. It is the difference between a canyon cult and a civilization. In this century, that room-above-the-chain is Stacks: names, contracts, sBTC, still settled to Bitcoin.

  6. 06 — Keys and answers

    Some truths require a key the institution does not hold

    The Order can franchise a story about a signal. It cannot decode what the signal actually contained without a quantum key that lived on a ship it did not control. That is the book’s warning about managed knowledge. Compute, AI, and cryptography do not replace honesty. They raise the cost of faking it — or, if captured, the cost of telling the truth. The archive’s position is the book’s: hold the keys. Do not rent your history.
